Durability can be enhanced greatly by ordering the TUFF-TURBO option for your new turbocharger. The TUFF-TURBO option is available for all T4 series, 60-1, and 62-1 turbochargers. This TURBONETICS exclusive option utilizes O, P, or Q trim turbine wheel shafts, and the stagger gap piston ring. Specially developed for competition applications, the TUFF TURBO option includes the big shaft with a larger bearing structure, larger thrust bearing and a left-handed nut. The big shaft virtually eliminates the destructive shaft motion normally associated with high boost. The TUFF-TURBO option is available with dynamic seal only.

THE Q TRIM TURBINE WHEEL SHAFT ASSEMBLY
Recognizing the need for a higher flow capacity turbine to match the capabilities of the 68-1 and the T Series compressor wheels, TURBONETICS has developed the Q trim. Incorporating all of the features of the Tuff-Turbo option, the Q trim represents the largest diameter turbine wheel that can be mated to a properly machined TO4B turbine housing. The result is a 12-15% increase in choke-flow limitation which significantly reduces turbine backpressure.

CONVENTIONAL PISTON RINGS UTILIZE A STANDARD RING-GAP CONFIGURATION (SEE SKETCH) FOR EASE OF MANUFACTURE AND INSTALLATlON - SUCH RINGS, BY DESIGN, LEAVE AN OPEN PATH THROUGH THE EX-POSED GAP FOR ANY OIL REACHING THE GAP TO PASS INTO THE TURBINE SECTION - RESULT? - SMOKE, RAW OIL LEAKAGE, OIL CONSUMPTION, MESSY OIL TRACKS, ETC.. THESE PROBLEMS ARE FURTHER AGGRAVATED BY TURBO INSTALLATIONS WITH MARGINAL OIL DRAIN PROVISIONS, HIGH TURBO LUBE OIL FLOW, LOW OIL VISCOSITY/HIGH OIL TEMPERATURES AND LOW-MOUNTED TURBOCHARGERS.
THE NEW UNIQUE TURBONETlCS STAGGER-GAP PISTON RlNGS MINIMIZES THESE CONCERNS BY OFFERING A CLOSED GAP PATH TO ANY OIL ATTEMPTING TO ESCAPE FROM THE BEARlNG HOUSING. THIS SIMPLE BUT EFFECTlVE DESIGN IS ACCOMPLISHED BY A STEPPED-END CUT INSTEAD OF THE CONVENTIONAL THROUGH-CUT UTILIZED BY STOCK RlNG MANUFACTURERS. NORMAL PRESSURE DIFFERENTlAL BETWEEN THE BEARING HOUSING AND THE TURBlNE SECTION FORCE THE OPPOSING FACES OF THE STAGGER-GAP RING TOGETHER, THEREBY ELIMINATING THE OPEN PATH NORMALLY ENCOUNTERED.
